Cationic Guar Gum

INCI: Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride

Solubility: Water dispersible

Use rate: 0.2 – 0.4% (Up to 1.5%)

Appearance: Beige/yellowish powder with characteristic amine odour (may be off-putting to sensitive noses but doesn’t carry on to the finished formula, except if used in very high doses. Can be masked with fragrance).

Add directly to the aqueous phase. Reduce pH to 5.5 with continuous stirring until polymer fully hydrates/particles dissolve. The gelling properties will not be seen unless the pH is reduced.

Surfactant Systems

To prevent any potential incompatibility, Cationic Guar can be combined in two different ways: First, add nonionic surfactants, followed by amphoterics, and finally, anionics.

Cationic Guar can be pre-dispersed in glycerin, propylene glycol, propanediol, etc. before being introduced to the water phase after the addition of surfactants.
